Experience

I am excited to have the opportunity to assist others in unlocking the blocks that prevent success during their learning experiences. I have over 10 years of experience working as a veterinarian assistant (not certified), accounts manager, receptionists, and liaison with my father, Dr. Richard C. James, the veterinarian in Crowley, Louisiana where I grew up. He taught me microbiology from the time I could reach his microscope. He also instilled in me strong positive ethics and ideals including helping others for the sake of humanity. One of the many lessons I have diligently worked to teach my own children and carry out in my own life. I later married, and I am the proud mother of 3 beautiful daughters, 9 beautiful grandchildren, and numerous four legged children commonly known as dogs. In 1986, I graduated Louisiana State University in Eunice (LSUE) School of Nursing and received my Registered Nurse License (R.N.) where I worked in a supervisory capacity in all facets of nursing. Later I became certified in high risk labor and delivery which ultimately led me to accept a position as a Director of Nursing. I made the decision to move to California due to the effects of Hurricane Katrina and the closely followed Hurricane Rita where I attend California State University in Northridge (CSUN), and received my Bachelor of Arts Degree in General Sociology which was a positive step in my ability to continue to help people. I began working and assisting those with developmental disabilities in finding new pathways and tools in order to become successful in living their lives. This included, but not limited to, teaching all school aged individuals with all aspects of their individual learning process from coping with home and family, to learning skills from grade school to high school and beyond. This has been some of the most wonderful times of my life. I live to see the joy on others' faces when they make the connection and become independent in their endeavors. I am fluent in assisting all subjects of grade school through high school including, but not limited to, mathematics, sciences, history, and language arts. I believe that education assistance includes open lines of communication between the client, all family members, educators, and myself. Learning is a social as well as personal experience. The chance for success increases as everyone involved in the client’s lives work from the “same page.” Assisting others in becoming successful in their education is one of the highest points of my life. I have had, and continue to have much encouragement from clients, their families, my family, and my supervisors to continue my education. This encouragement resulted in my decision to attend the University of Southern California (USC) where I received my Masters in Social Work (MSW), and graduated on the Dean's Honorable Mention list with a 3.91 grade point average. I am also an active member of the Phi Alpha Honor Society. I am now, and will continue to be an active alumni of USC as well as CSUN. I believe that my alumni status allows me another means of giving back to those who are striving for success just as my alumni colleagues did for me during my experiences during my undergraduate and graduate school endeavors. In closing, I look forward to helping others reach their individual goals so that they can also obtain increased self-fulfillment and self-confidence in all aspects of their lives. My goal is for each client to achieve these goals in a positive, calm, respectful, dignified, and individually paced environment. I am excited to meet you as well as be a part of your path to your success.
